Milestones at Instrum
The company was founded by György Szilágyi, a master craftsman with 30 years of experience in turning. He innovated and invented, implemented many of his ideas, and was a true creator – eager to share his knowledge with others. In 2006, his wife, Mrs György Ferenc Szilágyi, took over the management of Instrum, she was also a believer of continuous development. From 2022 Instrum Ltd. continues its activities as a part of the Budapest Stock Exchange-listed NAVIGATOR Group.
Generation change, change of ownership
NAVIGATOR Group is an investor that acquires and operates mainly industrial, manufacturing and service companies. NAVIGATOR’s portfolio will include companies where the founding owner cannot find a solution to the changes required by a generational change. The group’s objective – also in the case of Instrum Ltd. – is to preserve value, maintain a stable and professional professional operation and to develop.
Production management system and renovation
In 2020, a number of improvements were made:
- a new, modern production management system was introduced;
- renovated the packing and final acceptance room;
- the Quality Control Department office was renovated;
- the tool room and the warehouse were also renewed.
Investments
- Commissioning of a target machine developed in-house and purchase of a Mitutoyo BH305 coordinate measuring machine.
- Purchase and commissioning of STAR SR20J and STAR SR20JN longitudinal CNC lathes.
- Refurbishment of the workshop, complete roof and window replacement.
- Construction of meeting room, canteen.
- Construction of new office area and purchase of Matrix Max automatic tool dispenser.
Purchase of machinery
New machinery purchase in 2017-2018 under the Irinyi Plan. Within the framework of this investment, 1 STAR SR-20J and 1 STAR SB-20R longitudinal CNC lathes were added to Instrum’s machine park.
The total value of the investment is HUF 70 765 464.-, of which the grant is HUF 46 944 084.-.
New lathes
As a result of the continuous upgrading of the machinery, 2 YCM GT 200 MA CNC lathes were delivered to Instrum. The value of the investment is HUF 39 929 580.- and 50% of the purchase was financed by a grant.

Longitudinal CNC lathes
The first longitudinal CNC lathes arrived through a tender and additional equipment was purchased:
- 1 pc. STAR SR-10J longitudinal CNC lathe
- 1 pc. STAR SR-20J longitudinal CNC lathe
- 1 pc. Mitutoyo contour measuring machine
- 1 pc. TESA height gauge
- 1 pc. Mitutoyo roughness gauge
- Computer and printer
The total value of the investment is HUF 78 425 000.- and the grant amount is HUF 27 455 470.-.

Supplier of the year
In 2010, Instrum was awarded the title of Supplier of the Year by Knorr-Bremse. Instrum has been manufacturing parts for Knorr Bremse (its predecessor in Hungary: Kecskemét SZIM) since 1975 through its professional team.
The prize is awarded every year by the Knorr Group to suppliers who have consistently delivered on time, to a high quality and at a reasonable price for Knorr during the year. We are very proud that Instrum Ltd. won this award in 2010 in the metal supplier category.
Renovation
- Complete interior renovation – resin coating and painting.
- Purchase of new YCM GT200MA CNC lathes.
- Purchase of computers.
The total value of the investment is HUF 55 500 000.- from which the grant was HUF 16 500 000.-.

Change of manager
Mrs Szilágyi takes over the management of the company.
New production plant
In 1996 the company bought a new site in Tököl. Production is still carried out here today.
